Sussex Heartlands Storytelling Walk

  • The Sidings Bistro Railway Approach Newhaven, England, BN9 0DF United Kingdom (map)

A circular five hour Downland walk between Newhaven and Bishopstone with breaks to hear regional folktales.

Get tickets and prices HERE (concessions available)

A winding path leads from the River Ouse via the reedy industrial hinterlands of Newhaven up onto the Downs, down into the woods, on through ancient villages and out along the shoreline. Clay, chalk, iron, flint and salt have shaped the folklore of Sussex, bequeathing a motley array of weird and wonderful histories and legends for your listening pleasure. The walk begins and ends at the Sidings Café (near Newhaven Station), a great place for drinks, snacks and riverside views. PLEASE NOTE: The five-and-a-half-mile route takes in sloping and uneven ground and is suitable for experienced walkers able to maintain a reasonable pace between stops to hear stories.

Sussex Heartlands Walk is an all-weather event so come dressed for the British Summer. Well-behaved dogs and owners are welcome, on the understanding that the walk takes in livestock pasture and a few busy roads , and dogs will have to be on the lead much of the time.

The walk will begin and end at the Sidings Bistro (01273 905500) very close to Newhaven Town Station, where refreshments will be available.

Ages 12 and upwards.

Please bring a packed lunch.
